And not a single fuck was given by the farmer, it would seem. Was there no way, or no time, to warn the driver by radio?

The fuck was that guy doing!?

Most rally cars don't have radios, and for most of the ones that do they're not hooked into the helmet intercom system

Remember at black river stages Dusty, ...some guy did that in a fucking dodge ram...just before we started...He got a good yelling from us marshalls.

I can't say I blame the marshalls, although I understand why the driver did, if you signal and wave and do you all you can to draw the attention of the front loader...and he keeps trucking...well...there's not much you can do.

I see one of two possibilities. Either he was ignorant and just didn't notice/comprehend the banner tape he drove through (maybe the bucket blocked his vision of it?), or he was disgruntled, didn't like the rally shutting down the roads he lives on/uses for work, and decided he wasn't going to put up with having to wait for the road to reopen. I've known both to happen.

I know people are inherently stupid but come one. The intersection the farmer went through had marshals, orange flags AND spectators! Did he really think people were just standing around for nothing, or couldn't be bothered to stop and ask?

There was actually another car on day 1 at Black River as well. Pete Hascher met him head on in the hot stage and had a moment like David in the video.

Exactly. Like that guy at black river stages "I gotta get out"...well, you won't get far if a rally car hits you at 50 mph.

It's possible he was protesting the rally, in his own stupid, potentially negligently homicidal way.

What stage was that? I didn't hear nor see that. Terrifying. I think they should go to each nearby house and post up flyer if noone is home detailing the road closures. Maybe they do that already.

So does he get a mulligan on that leg for the obstruction?

I would need clean pants. And a seat.

I'm not one to be like this, but that is actually really dangerous. If that was a blind corner the other direction, the rally driver would of slid right into him. Which wouldn't be good because it looks like the pallet the farmer is carrying is right at head height.

Not sure what stage it was, but that's why when the truck came out on day 2 Pete and Greg insisted the stage be cancelled and we all transit through. They were still fresh from their close call and didn't want a repeat. Fliers are already handed out ahead of time, signs about the road closures are put up weeks in advance, and all town meetings leading up to the rally discuss it. Some people just don't pay attention. Others just don't care and refuse to change their personal lives and schedule for the rally

Absolutely, it's a terrible accident waiting to happen, but some people drive onto the hot stage intentionally all the same.

I can't get over how calm the passenger is in that video. But I guess for the driver I'd rather have a passenger who is calm like that and not freaking the fuck out and has faith that the driver can hold the car. But seriously that was massive how he held on to the car and kept it out of the wall.

A halfway decent prosecutor could get something like that bumped up from negligent to either murder or aggravated I would think.

Driving a bulldozer with the shovel at driver's head level onto a known race course seems like more than negligence.

Hell, if you wanted to leave the penniless farmer more penniless, there's probably an attempted murder case somewhere in here.

Even in the UK? They tend to be less litigious than we are

Dunno. Was speaking more generally (I'm not a lawyer, so I'm using my Law and Order degree, given to me by the Dick Wolf school of Bullshit).
